To broker crude oil, you should have excellent buyer and seller contacts because a crude oil broker’s main responsibility is to bring viable buyers and sellers together so that you can help them negotiate, facilitate and execute the brokerage.
In the NYMEX, the ticker symbol of crude oil is CL and the trading hours of the exchange are from 9.00 a.m. until 2.30 p.m. EST. The contract size that is usually sold is 1,000 US barrels, which is equivalent to 42,000 gallons. The price quoted in the Exchange is per barrel and the tick size is $0.01 per barrel or $10 per contract. The last trading day of the NYMEX is the third business day prior to the 25th calendar day of the month preceding the delivery month.
Not everyone can broker crude oil. The market for crude oil is very volatile and if you are ready to take risks, you should go ahead and try your hand.
